There is no doubt that hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and dysglycemia (including diabetes) significantly increase an individual’s risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and that it is important to manage these three major CV risk factors. However, it is becoming increasingly apparent that addressing these risk factors in isolation is insufficient and that there are many more risk factors, such as age, gender, smoking status, and obesity, that will occur in the same patient and are equally important to address. Thus a global approach to CV risk management is essential.1,2
