  • Blood markers of disease: The identification of new biochemical risk factors and genetic markers for cardiovascular-related disease.
  • Ambulatory blood pressure measurement: Evaluation of the effects of telmisartan and ramipril on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality after adjustment for 24-hour blood pressure values.
  • Left ventricular hypertrophy: Changes in cardiac structure and function will be assessed by nuclear magnetic resonance imaging.
  • Glucose tolerance: Assess delays of the onset of diabetes in patients at high cardiovascular risk. New-onset diabetes is the strongest secondary endpoint in TRANSCEND®.
  • Erectile dysfunction: Evaluation of the incidence and time course of erectile dysfunction during drug treatment in patients with cardiovascular disease.
